Humble operation after being famous overnight
Within less than one year, Biyouma
website operated by Biyouma Presbyterian Church (then called
Pinghe Presbyterian Church) won the first place of National
Community Web-site Competition, 2000. The villagers were
overjoyed. This set paved the confidence and the vision of
sustainable operation of the website. At the same time, the
villagers were more convinced of the existence of the website. I
still recalled that some good-willed person who wanted to donate
20 second hand computers to the website. It did not work out due
to the site and management. I told the villagers then not to be
too proud of the glory. With the blessing of the Lord, we should
be humbler to continue the village culture.

Being invited to share how to establish a
digital village In the recent years, I
was often invited by academic or educational institutions, such
as National Education Research Institute, National Dong Hwa
University and National Pingtung Teachersˇ¦ College (currently
National Pingtung University of Education) to give lectures on
how to establish a digital village. With sharing of the Internet
application of the village website or dialect, I offered my
suggestions from my experiences on the indigenous villages. It
is such a nice thing to share my experience with the indigenous
people while encouraging myself for self-growth.ˇC

From expectations to fulfillment
In 2003, Specialist Huang
Zhao-zhong of Department of Indigenous People Affairs, Pingtung
County Government told me about the achievement of Biyouma
community website op-erated by Biyouma Presbyterian Church. I
was very grateful to learn that the government expected me to do
something for promoting village book information. The news was
passed to Jiang Zheng-xin, then Secretary-general of the
Community Development Asso-ciation (and now Specialist of
Council for Indigenous Peoples, Executive Yuan and the vil-lage
chief Kong De-xin. Before approval of the government, to
expedite development, the Community Development Association
determined to establish Village Book Information Station and
elected me as the person in charge of information and Cai Yu-lan
as the ad-ministrator. We were fully authorized to handle future
plan and affairs. The villagers were very excited to learn the
village was chosen to be the first one to have village book
in-formation station in Paiwan Tribe. The administrator and I
participated in the negotiation conference of the sixteen
village book information stations held by Council for Indigenous
Peoples. I was very impressed by the instruction of Section
Chief Wang Chiu-yi that pro-motion of village book information
stations serve as the indicative achievement of the government
and failure was not allowed.
